HISTORICAL DATA
This semi-automatic gun was introduced to replace the 5cm/40. It served as a cruiser secondary weapon, ca 1905 and Torpedo boat primary weapon, superseding the 5cm/40. This gun was characterised as a 4pdr. It had a semiautomatic vertical sliding breech mechanism somewhat like char of Hotchkiss guns, which were its near-equivalent in other fleets. The standard mounting was MPL C/03. Data are partly from British intelligence handbooks, and are presumably approximate only.
In 1908 Krupp was reportedly working on an automatic 5.2cm gun, but never appeared.
